Natural Artifacts

-"specimen 1: stone with two crystal growths", graphite, acrylic paint, 5.5" x 6". (available here)
--a better image of a previously posted drawing.

I have collected rocks, fossils, shells, and branches since I was a little girl. When she was still alive, my grandmother would sit down with me at her dining room table and we painted seashells with shimmery fingernail polish. It seems that she has passed down her love of strange, natural beauty to me, and I am so grateful for it. Now I am imagining my own natural artifacts with this latest series of drawings.
